Sometimes, when you steer to the left, the car actually steers to the right and vice versa. This happens when using Tilt controls if the game wrongly detects that your device is upside down hence the inverted gyroscope/tilt controls.

For that reason, we invite you to rotate your device 180 degrees when the issue occurs to see if that resolves this issue. Otherwise, change your controls to Steering Wheel or Arrow buttons, start a race and switch your controls back to Tilt controls at the start of the race. We invite you to run these tests during a Showdown race to prevent them from affecting your progress in the other game modes.

Please keep in mind this is a problem specific to the Tilt controls scheme. Therefore, we invite you to try using the Arrow buttons controls or the Steering Wheel in case the above troubleshooting steps don't resolve this problem.
